CLIC during the school day:
Collaborating with grade level teams, the CLIC teacher designs creative extension units based on what is being taught in the classrooms. Classes come to the CLIC classroom to work on integration projects every day of the school week. CLIC gives students immediate opportunities to actively learn curriculum in new and exciting ways.
With CLIC, students are active participants encouraged to dive into learning. Through many different approaches, CLIC aims to teach to many different learning styles. There are hands on projects, community activism, and real life connections made through the CLIC integrated curriculum. Taking the additional step, CLIC allows children extra time during the school day and after school to further explore a topic that interests them. Due to time restraints, children are so often pushed onto the next topic and are not given time to investigate their passions in learning. CLIC enthusiastically invites children to pursue whatever they'd like to learn about through its immediate support to the classrooms.

CLIC Before and After School
Academic clubs and extension classes are a great way for children to try something new or explore what they love. It is also a great way for children to meet and connect with other people who share their interests. Academic clubs help children form healthy relationships and feel accepted in a team or group. After hour programs create a sense of community for our children to safely take the risk of trying new things.
There are three CLIC after school learning opportunities:
1. Academic Clubs- These before and after school clubs run during the entire school year and children may join at any time. CLIC clubs allow children to meet weekly to work on group and individual projects within a certain discipline. For example, there is a science and technology club, art club, and ecology club that meet each week. In addition to learning from a teacher or guest professional, students are encouraged to mentor, teach, and govern these clubs.
2. Curriculum Extension Classes- These CLIC after school programs are designed for grade level classes on a need be basis. Working with classroom teachers, CLIC designs extension units that will give extra opportunities for children to come in and further learn about a topic. For example, if the class is studying colonial living in social studies, CLIC would design additional opportunities for the children to come after school and create a colonial market place. Many times, children do not have enough time to finish school projects so this after school time allows children to come work on complex projects.
3. Community Events- These events take place throughout the year to showcase the children's accomplishments as well as get the community involved in the elementary schools. These events range from musical performances to science fairs to not only show what the children are learning but to give an opportunity for the children to reach out to the community to teach and share their knowledge. Children are actively involved in organizing and running these events allowing for unique experiences in leadership.
